The twenty-ninth Conference of Parties (COP29), which addresses climate change, is being hosted by Azerbaijan, during 11-24 November 2024, and is taking place in Baku. This prayer resource, intended to be used during the COP fortnight, considers some common climate change themes.
Welcome to our COP29 prayer resource, where we have used the Bible as our springboard to explore some common climate change themes.
This home page provides a dashboard for navigating to each day’s reflection. You can return to it from any other page by clicking on Praying for COP29 at the top of the page (or if you're on a phone you might just see the COP29 logo that we have created).
Each day has a separate theme, but all are relevant to climate change. For each we have provided a reading from the Bible, a reflection on the theme, one or more relevant, usually simple, actions and a prayer. There are also links to relevant resources if you want to find out more, and a final section about the COP. Whilst we have reflected on issues from a global and personal perspective, the actions are personal, because we believe that making personal change aligns us more closely with the way that God would have us live.
Unsurprisingly, as you move through the next two weeks of reflections you'll be following a theme of justice. Initially we saw this as a thin red thread, there to guide us, but really, God is our guide on this journey, and justice is a weighty rope: easily visible and difficult to break.
Where we have used the work of other people we have tried to attribute appropriately, and any mistakes are ours. Note that links to external websites will open in a new tab.
