The Lima Work Programme on Gender (LWPG) was established by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2014. Its primary goal is to advance gender balance and integrate gender considerations into the work of Parties (the countries signed up to the Convention) and the secretariat in implementing the Convention and the Paris Agreement. This aims to achieve gender-responsive climate policy and action.
The LWPG includes a Gender Action Plan (GAP), which sets out objectives and activities under five priority areas to advance knowledge and understanding of gender-responsive climate action. These areas include capacity-building, knowledge management, communication, gender-responsive implementation, and women's leadership and participation.
The programme has been reviewed and enhanced over the years, with the most recent review initiated at COP 28 in June 2024, and set to conclude in November 2024.
